Muerto en Mictlán is a thrilling slot game developed by Play'n GO, based on the Mexican festival Day of the Dead. This event commemorates the deceased and honors their memory. The game's setting is Mictlán, the Aztec underworld, where players embark on a mystical adventure.
The game's grid features a 5x3 reel setup with 20 paylines, situated in a town square adorned with vibrant flowers. Symbols include traditional stitch-patterned spades, clubs, hearts, and diamonds, as well as hats, flowers, and two characters named Catrin and Catrina.
Winning combinations are formed when three or more matching symbols line up on at least one of the 10 paylines. However, you can also use the special Wild symbol to form these win-ways. Wild symbols are represented by an Animated Skull and wherever they land, they’ll substitute for any other pay symbol to form payline combinations. They also happen to be the most rewarding symbol in the game. Landing a full line of 5 Wild symbols will reward 30x your stake.
The main feature of the base game is the Multiplier Meter. At random times the multiplier meter triggers and enhances your wins by 2x or 4x. You can even upgrade the feature in the bonus game, which is where the real adventure begins.
In order to trigger the Mictlán Free Spins bonus game you’ll need to collect Scatter symbols. These special symbols come in an overlay form, meaning they land on top of regular symbols, and therefore do not block your payline combination payouts. You can recognize a Scatter overlay icon by a pink swirl effect.
Once 3+ Scatters land anywhere on the grid, you’ll begin a progressive Mictlán Free Spins feature with 4 levels. However, before starting, you’ll be able to release one spirit to enhance your Wild symbols to have one of the following effects. You can only select one Wild feature per level, and the chosen feature becomes unavailable for the following levels.

Muerto En Mictlan has a lot of style but mediocre results. It’s clear that Play’n GO is trying to make players feel the power with their “wild choice" feature in each bonus round level but in my opinion is not bringing it 100%. Simply put, something is missing when it comes to execution. It is still a good game that can produce nice wins and exciting gaming sessions.
