Betting Options and Bonus Features
The theme of Gold Volcano is built on an upside-down cascading system with an avant-garde 3-4-5-6-6-5-4-3 reel setup. Instead of symbols falling down from above, they erupt from the bottom in a volcano fashion.
At the start of every spin, you’ll be playing on a Dormant Volcano. A dormant volcano has a chance to trigger 3 random features on any losing spin. These features are special reel modifiers that help you land and extend your cascading wins.
- The Rumble Feature - Adds one Scatter and shuffles all symbols on the screen for another chance at lining up a winning combination.
- The Lava Feature - Creates an additional layer of random symbols on your reels.
- The Excavate Feature - Adds 3 to 5 Wild symbols to random squares on the board.
To form winning combinations, you’ll need to land matching symbols in clusters. Anytime 4 or more symbols are connected vertically/horizontally you’ll achieve a cluster win. The reward you receive depends on the type of symbol you land, which can be up to 1,000x your stake with the Golden top tier symbol.
Once a cluster win is triggered, whether through the Dormant features or regular spins, you have a small chance to trigger the Pressure Feature. It will occasionally create Wild symbols with a multiplier of up to 2x when winning symbols are removed.
The last base game feature is the Crystallisation feature. It comes in the form of a progressive meter, which lets you turn premium symbols into Gold by collecting Scatter symbols. The meter has 3 stages, each transforming one of the colored premium gemstones into the top tier symbol. To unlock each stage you’ll need to collect 3 Scatters within a cascading sequence. Once the cascading/tumbling is over, the meter will reset. However, your Crystallisation meter will stay if you happen to trigger the Eruption bonus round.
The Free Spins bonus round is triggered through the Eruption feature. For each symbol cascade the magma level in the background rises by 1. Once the lava rises to the top level 6, you’ll receive 5 initial free spins.
During your free spins, you’ll unlock new symbol spaces, which were previously visible but inaccessible. This will allow the volcano to push out the middle symbols and utilize a massive 8x8 grid in every spin. Furthermore, the Crystallization meter no longer resets after cascades and you get an extra free spin for every 6 consecutive cascades. It's also important to keep in mind that the Pressure Feature is still active in the Free Spins bonus game and you can land big multiplier wins.

Gold Volcano is a super ambitious project that’s maybe a little too stuffed. There are a lot of things happening on screen and a lot of them feel like Play’n GO is attempting to reinvent the wheel again. The game features Scatters but with a completely different purpose than what they usually do.
To trigger the bonus game, you have to loop a bunch of cascading wins. It makes reaching the bonus round more of a consolation than an achievement or a surprise. The bonus game itself is also nothing really special. Having more symbols on screen is nice but you can hardly feel the impact.
